Album Review by Adam Lindsay Honsinger

While each of these beautifully interpreted covers stand on their own, Carey West’s latest musical offering Made of Clay is a thematically structured jazz album that impels the listener to engage with the work as a whole. This is, at its heart, a curation of un-standards that journey through a spectrum of emotional material. Not only do the songs on this disc manage a fervent and yet airy balance, but they seem deeply personal, and the range of West’s soulful voice is on display in every track, Made of Clay exudes passion and spirit, the result of which is an album that can hold its own at a party, as a compliment to an intimate dinner, and best of all, it satisfies at a close listen.
